In a recent article with Arab News, Dr. Mansoor Khan, CEO of Persivia, highlighted how Saudi Arabia’s healthcare transformation under Vision 2030 puts artificial intelligence (AI) in the spotlight.
As the Kingdom accelerates its health transformation, the sector stands at a critical crossroads. Rising chronic disease rates, growing patient demand, and shortages in medical professionals are straining capacity. While billions of riyals are being invested in new hospitals and clinics, leaders stress that infrastructure alone will not be enough.
Dr. Mansoor emphasized that AI has the potential to relieve much of this burden, but success depends on how the technology is deployed.
“Fragmentation of care, resource shortages, and rising costs driven by chronic diseases remain the Kingdom’s biggest challenges,” said Dr. Khan. “No country has deployed AI at large scale in healthcare yet. Saudi Arabia has the human and financial capital to lead on the global stage.”
Drawing from global experience, Dr. Khan noted that in the United States, some health systems have reduced readmissions by over 14% using AI-powered outpatient management. For Saudi Arabia, where conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular disease dominate, the impact could be even greater.
Still, he cautioned against viewing AI as a one-size-fits-all solution:
“If you are going to risk-stratify a population, that is not a task for generative AI, but for predictive and prescriptive AI. Success equals empathy plus evidence plus workflow fit.”
